Halloween in Hawaii — Where to Trick-or-Treat + Adult Events 2026
AlohaCalendar Editorial|May 23, 2026
Halloween in Hawaii is bigger than most visitors expect. **Waikīkī becomes one big costume party** the weekend before, the malls host massive family trick-or-treat events, and the surf clubs throw the rowdiest Halloween nights you'll find anywhere.
October 31, every year. Plus the Friday/Saturday before.
## Family + kids events
### Mall trick-or-treat
- **Ala Moana Center** — biggest in Hawaii. Costumed kids hit 100+ stores 3-7pm on October 31. Free candy, photo ops with costumed staff. Get there by 3pm — gets jammed by 5.
- **Pearlridge Center** — same format, less crowded.
- **Kahala Mall** — smaller, calmer.
- **Whaler's Village (Maui)** — kāʻanapali version.
- **Coconut Marketplace (Kauaʻi)** — Kauaʻi family standard.
### Haunted Lava Tube (Big Island)
**Volcanoes National Park** sometimes runs guided night tours of the Thurston Lava Tube the weekend before Halloween. Always weather-dependent. Free with park admission ($30).
### Pumpkin patches
- **Aloun Farms (Oʻahu)** — biggest patch in Hawaii. October weekends.
- **Waimanalo Country Farm** — smaller, more local feel.
## Adult / nightlife
### Waikīkī
The Friday and Saturday before Halloween, Kalākaua Avenue becomes a costume parade. Bars + clubs:
- **RumFire (Sheraton)** — annual Halloween bash, costume contest
- **The Modern Honolulu** — pool party, DJs
- **Sky Waikīkī** — rooftop, big costume contest
- **Kelley O'Neil's** — Irish pub vibe, all-night party
### Off the strip
- **Republik (Honolulu)** — biggest concert venue Halloween shows
- **The Wonder Lounge** — gay-friendly costume night
- **Surfer Bar (North Shore)** — local vibe, Halloween bonfire
## Costume tips for Hawaii
- It's **80°F at night**. Cancel the wool sweater + jacket combo.
- Costumes get sweat-soaked fast. Bring a change.
- Some Waikīkī clubs have dress codes that override costumes (no flip-flops, etc.).
## Things specific to Hawaii
- **Night marchers** are real Hawaiian folklore — ghost warriors who walk certain trails at night. Locals don't joke about them. If someone tells you to stay off a specific trail Halloween night, take them seriously.
- **Pele**, the volcano goddess, is occasionally said to appear at Halloween in various forms. Respect the legends.
