Hawaii Summer Events 2026 — Festivals, Concerts & Beach Days to Look Forward To

AlohaCalendar|May 9, 2026

Hawaii's summer is whale-quiet (they've all left for Alaska) and event-loud. June through August is when the islands stack festivals, fireworks, slack-key concerts, and outdoor luaus. Here's what to put on your calendar.

June — King Kamehameha Day + summer kicks in

  • King Kamehameha Day (June 11). State holiday honoring the king who unified the islands. Lei-draping ceremony at the King Kamehameha statue downtown Honolulu, a parade through Waikiki, hula and Hawaiian music all day. Free.
  • Pan-Pacific Festival (early June, Honolulu). Three days of cultural performances from Hawaii, Japan, Tahiti, Samoa, Korea. Block-party energy in Waikiki.
  • Maui Film Festival (mid-June, Wailea). Outdoor screenings on the lawn at Wailea, A-list director Q&As, sunset over Molokini.

July — fireworks + the long days

  • Independence Day fireworks. The biggest displays: Ala Moana Beach (Honolulu), Front Street Lahaina (Maui), Hanalei (Kauai). Get there 2 hours early for parking.
  • Ukulele Festival Hawaii (late July, Kapiolani Park). Free, all-day, 800+ ukulele performers including kids' grand finale of 800-uke jam. The Hawaiian event you didn't know you needed.
  • Prince Lot Hula Festival (Moanalua Gardens). Non-competition hula — meaning the dancers do it for love, not for trophies. The most authentic hula you'll see in a single day.

August — slack-key + saying goodbye to summer

  • Slack-Key Guitar Festival (Big Island + Oahu). Hawaiian slack-key (ki ho'alu) is the gentle, fingerpicked music that started on this island in the 1830s. Free, outdoor, all-star lineup.
  • Made in Hawaii Festival (Honolulu, mid-Aug). 400+ Hawaii-made vendors at the Hawaii Convention Center — coffee, jewelry, koa wood, art.
  • Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament (Kona, late Aug). If you're into deep-sea fishing, this is the world's most prestigious. Even if you're not, the harbor weigh-ins are a show.

Summer-long staples

  • Sunset on the Beach (Waikiki, every Saturday). Free outdoor movie on Queen's Beach, food trucks, sunset.
  • Twilight at Kalakaua (every other Sunday). Block party, live Hawaiian music, hula, food.
  • Maui Friday Town Parties. Each town takes a Friday — Wailuku, Lahaina, Makawao, Kihei. Free music, food trucks, art walks.
  • North Shore Oahu Saturday Markets. Hale'iwa Farmers Market and Sunset Mall — best after a beach morning.

What to expect weather-wise

Summer is dry on the south and west sides (Waikiki, Kona, Wailea, Poipu); slightly rainy on windward / north sides. Daytime highs 84-88°F. Water is 78-82°F — best snorkeling water of the year.
