Sunset on the Beach Waikīkī: Free Movies + Concerts (2026)

AlohaCalendar Editorial|May 23, 2026
**Sunset on the Beach** is one of Hawaiʻi's best-kept free secrets — though it's been running since 2001. Once a month (more in summer), the parks department puts up a 30-foot screen on the sand at Queen's Surf Beach (between Waikīkī and Diamond Head) and shows a movie or concert as the sun goes down behind it. ## The basics - **Where:** Queen's Surf Beach, Waikīkī (east end, near Honolulu Zoo) - **When:** Roughly once a month — Saturdays, weather permitting - **Cost:** **Free** - **Schedule:** Posted at sunsetonthebeach.net + on the city's parks calendar ## What to bring - **Beach chair or blanket** — front rows are first-come - **Hoodie** — Waikīkī cools off after sunset, even in summer - **Cash** — food vendors are local, cards sometimes don't work - **Insect repellent** — the lawn just back of the sand has mosquitoes ## Food 15+ food trucks line up behind the seating: plate lunch, shave ice, Hawaiian sun crepes, malasadas, Korean tacos. Plate lunch $9–14. Shave ice $5. Drinks $4. ## Timing - 5 PM: vendors open - 6 PM: live music - 7 PM: sunset - 7:30 PM: featured film starts - 10 PM: wrap ## Pro tips - **Arrive by 5:30** for a beach spot front-center - **Bring extra blanket** — sand gets cold - **Walk back via Kalākaua** — Waikīkī comes alive after the show ## Related - [Waikīkī neighborhood guide →](/neighborhood/waikiki) - [Free events in Hawaii →](/free)
