Kāneʻohe
Windward Oahu's main town. Kualoa Ranch movie sets, Hoʻomaluhia tropical garden, the Sandbar in the middle of the bay.
About Kāneʻohe
Kāneʻohe sits on the windward side of Oʻahu, on the eastern shore of Kāneʻohe Bay. The Koʻolau range looms vertical behind the town — green, rain-soaked, otherworldly. It's the wet side. Bring layers.
Kualoa Ranch is here — 4,000 acres of working cattle ranch that's been used as the filming location for Jurassic Park, Lost, 50 First Dates, and Hawaii Five-O. The ranch offers movie-site ATV tours, horseback rides, and a working farm tour.
Hoʻomaluhia Botanical Garden (free) is 400 acres of tropical species at the base of the Koʻolau, with a lake and rental campsites. Drive in and pretend you're in the Amazon.
The Kāneʻohe Sandbar — a 2-mile shallow sand flat in the middle of the bay, exposed at low tide — is a boat-rental day-trip destination. Rent a kayak or join a tour boat.
